What is Felting? Felting is an ancient technique to create fabric from wool that has been around since at least 6500 BCE! Felt is a non-woven textile made of wool or animal fur. There are different ways to create felt: one is with soap and water, and another is with a felting needle. Regardless of the process, the action of felting binds fibers together creating a permanent bond, and making the felting process irreversible. What can you make by felting? The possibilities are endless! Maybe a two-dimensional artwork ready to be framed, or a three-dimensional plushy, keychain, or even beads! For this class, we will learn both two-dimensional and three-dimensional felting, and you will be able to take home one example of each. Feel free to bring your ideas and inspirational pictures!
